Most of the 4WD’s can tow up to the manufacturers recommended weight, as long as the tow-bar and ball weight limits are observed. Before you tow something using your 4WD, it is advisable to check for the compatibility of the 4WD/ trailer combination you are interested in so that you do not get stuck.

What size 4WD to go for

Choosing the right size of the 4WD you need depends on the number of people in the car and the amount of gear being carried. Different sizes of 4WDs’ are available in the market today. There are the compact wagons like the Honda’s CR-V, Toyota’s RAV4, Nissan’s X-Trail and Subaru’s Forrester, the medium wagons like the Mitsubishi’s Pajero and Toyota’s Land Cruiser Prado to the big wagons like the Nissan Patrol.

New vehicles cost more, but have the advantage of a new car warranty, and the fact that you are assured you're the first person to own that vehicle. Additionally, it is easier to secure finance for a new vehicle. There are a lot of pre-owned or second hand 4wd's on the market at the moment.
